Cuisine
Originally founded as a refuelling station by the DEIC (Dutch East India Company) on the coveted spice trade route to the East, Cape Town has the cuisine to reflect this melting pot of cultures.
Ranging from the fruity curry flavors of the Cape Malays, originally enslaved to their Dutch masters; to the delicate French cuisine and wines brought over by the persecuted Hugenots who founded FranschHoek (French Corner); to the flavors that complement the bounty of fresh seafood - local lobster, mussels and local fish that Cape Town is so famous for.
Nature
Towering above it all is the iconic Table Mountain, one of the most memorable mountains in the world, with its endless paths and vistas, covered by the local fynbos and the national flower, the Protea.
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens features thousands of local species, beautiful picnic areas, a summer outdoor concert series, and trails directly up into the mountain.
The Good Hope Nature Reserve, within the Cape Peninsula National Park - which protects more than 1000 species of fynbos - lies 20km south of Scarborough, and a further 5km drive brings you to Cape Point - the southernmost tip of the Cape Peninsula. It is one of the Cape's most visited attractions, with crisp, clear air and spectacular views from the high sea cliffs.
